5 Things You Will (Hopefully) Learn in Weightlifting

ICWA creates a supportive environment to help people serious about improving their health and a place to achieve their goals. As soon as you begin your weightlifting practice, you will find a whole new world of knowledge—about weightlifting and about yourself—open up. Here are some of the valuable lessons we hope you take away:

#1 The Gym Can Be Your Second Home

Intimidation prevents many people from getting the training or coaching and access to equipment they need to build their strength and agility. However, once you face your fears and walk through our doors, you’ll find a supportive community that embraces you as you are and encourages you to be a better you. Who doesn’t want to keep coming back to that?!

So, you may be like a number of our “regulars” who find that the gym is a haven, a home away from home where you can burn off your frustrations and get the benefit of taking care of yourself.

#2 Proper Gym Etiquette

Like any community, the gym has rules—some of them posted, some of them unspoken. We will teach you all of them so that you know things like:

  • Giving someone actively in the middle of a set plenty of space around their body and equipment
  • Do not talk to someone actively in the middle of a set
  • Rerack your weights every time
  • Stack your weights the right way
  • Find low-traffic areas of the gym for high-movement sets like jumping rope or burpees

There’s a lot more gym etiquette to learn, and we’ll help you feel comfortable and contribute to the comfort and safety of everyone getting fit in the same space.

#3 Proper Weightlifting Form

One of the reasons you wisely came to ICWA is to learn proper weightlifting form so that you can prevent injury. We’ll teach you how to lift for maximum impact and minimal risk.

#4 Nutritional Support

Because we want to give you every resource available to reach your weight loss or fitness goals, we can provide advice and other educational materials about how to eat to support your workout efforts.

#5 How Strong You Are

Weightlifting is not for wimps—the physical or the emotional kind. When you come to the gym regularly and learn proper form, proper etiquette and start seeing results, you will learn just how tough you are physically and mentally.

Learning doesn’t always happen by watching. You have to start your weightlifting program to learn these valuable lessons. Contact ICWA to find out when new weightlifting classes begin or to start a personal training program.
